</div>
Here is a quick review of this past week's class:<br />
First, I shared one of our fave treats-Pretzel Hugs! There are only three ingredients:<br />
M&Ms<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiGLc51pt6N2AvzadLorM62-ZjXtQHQy-wG3Es7aGqfol4VG41gTCZ6DNBbeDPmFrHVUTikwAmsfuGiW9u5zQb2LlcX_vWDaT4wZt39IQKkR-f_E1oG-3tMLlvUZe7QEk9CHFYRytz1GYVc/s1600/mmsvalentine.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiGLc51pt6N2AvzadLorM62-ZjXtQHQy-wG3Es7aGqfol4VG41gTCZ6DNBbeDPmFrHVUTikwAmsfuGiW9u5zQb2LlcX_vWDaT4wZt39IQKkR-f_E1oG-3tMLlvUZe7QEk9CHFYRytz1GYVc/s1600/mmsvalentine.jpg" height="320" width="276" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
Square pretzels-the only brand I have found so far is Snyder's of Hanover Snaps.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEizqKuc5ElaTeLsgAv3z9slk4to17oxgMeZ9WIsgWnpP0RkrIrM1afNm_KFHpIZqaEHBVHBkIr6SVJQsgc2chcWFgE8voVtXR4AddWLi4GFrx8HDnslUcaQjFPy87y-B7Kdi07OxnUA-EV9/s1600/hugspretzels.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-align: center;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEizqKuc5ElaTeLsgAv3z9slk4to17oxgMeZ9WIsgWnpP0RkrIrM1afNm_KFHpIZqaEHBVHBkIr6SVJQsgc2chcWFgE8voVtXR4AddWLi4GFrx8HDnslUcaQjFPy87y-B7Kdi07OxnUA-EV9/s1600/hugspretzels.JPG" height="320" width="240" /></a><br />
<br />
and Hershey's Hugs.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjdcl_-IcfRJAOB8t8BMaeoPPx3JE5dN-4nACC3CHPMaCjFvTgyn5WdGh3gIXGgCf2pAtnnSWn4hB-bFJL7PxNB_DpQWJz9EW4W6jQOz_zN8UymBcfel_GsRKHY_w2NbbLzMMK81Is-z_ym/s1600/hugs2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><br /></a></div>
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgree-ACIvrpso0t_jaKZ2RKAhLQfx-Jf139BMMW0kAnL0LvpKqBl5MItjv0OSTayDxxqKksFmBS0kx9GJ5XQtFs34zqHrJpNq3ybZnObOHTSGW-1WEQRBdwjfhX3Hcmti6sgURpEI1boxV/s1600/hugsfilter.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-align: center;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgree-ACIvrpso0t_jaKZ2RKAhLQfx-Jf139BMMW0kAnL0LvpKqBl5MItjv0OSTayDxxqKksFmBS0kx9GJ5XQtFs34zqHrJpNq3ybZnObOHTSGW-1WEQRBdwjfhX3Hcmti6sgURpEI1boxV/s1600/hugsfilter.jpg" height="277" width="320" /></a><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
Put all the pretzels on a cookie sheet or pan that has been lined with parchment or aluminum foil.<br />
Then put an unwrapped Hug in the center of each pretzel. Put into the oven at 200 degrees F. for about 5 minutes, or until the Hug is soft enough to push flat.<br />
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh3WoJ53eiZzfhj5Eu37nxEVdZbgu1Y6ur9OxSfeuzhpiq_927MYIsJP4IpifLqKN0lqBhnAK4_jJKA3r5Gad0_d4huk64WE317MHocBFPzxIP6z88rSBiNZFkdGp-bo83NsUbbjdLaa7bv/s1600/hugshalfway2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-align: center;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh3WoJ53eiZzfhj5Eu37nxEVdZbgu1Y6ur9OxSfeuzhpiq_927MYIsJP4IpifLqKN0lqBhnAK4_jJKA3r5Gad0_d4huk64WE317MHocBFPzxIP6z88rSBiNZFkdGp-bo83NsUbbjdLaa7bv/s1600/hugshalfway2.jpg" height="212" width="320" /></a><br />
<br />
Put an M&M in the center of each Hug, pressing the melted Hug flat as you do so. Let them cool, or if you are impatient like me, and it's winter, put them outside for a few minutes. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiCNoqcZ6TTdUEukbEJ_g0mNjl_2afHmwmiHu0wUHfYJCxq6-mJgoAl-xGaFzaoH-qaTS-AVZQXRZbONMDcwl7qziyA71O_XrylnXwa6rIlGAkJolM80lZdWTvfvIGWvmf_G8QIQAyhD6CH/s1600/hugsfinished2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiCNoqcZ6TTdUEukbEJ_g0mNjl_2afHmwmiHu0wUHfYJCxq6-mJgoAl-xGaFzaoH-qaTS-AVZQXRZbONMDcwl7qziyA71O_XrylnXwa6rIlGAkJolM80lZdWTvfvIGWvmf_G8QIQAyhD6CH/s1600/hugsfinished2.jpg" height="240" width="320" /></a><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiCNoqcZ6TTdUEukbEJ_g0mNjl_2afHmwmiHu0wUHfYJCxq6-mJgoAl-xGaFzaoH-qaTS-AVZQXRZbONMDcwl7qziyA71O_XrylnXwa6rIlGAkJolM80lZdWTvfvIGWvmf_G8QIQAyhD6CH/s1600/hugsfinished2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><br /></a><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiCNoqcZ6TTdUEukbEJ_g0mNjl_2afHmwmiHu0wUHfYJCxq6-mJgoAl-xGaFzaoH-qaTS-AVZQXRZbONMDcwl7qziyA71O_XrylnXwa6rIlGAkJolM80lZdWTvfvIGWvmf_G8QIQAyhD6CH/s1600/hugsfinished2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><br /></a></div>
<br />
That is it! Three ingredient crack. Seriously, these are very addicting. You can't eat just one. Or twenty. The worst part of this recipe is unwrapping all the Hugs. And waiting for them to cool. And this is a treat you can do every season because the M&M colors change! Also, it is good with Rolos in the middle instead of Hugs. <br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
We also made some super easy valentine projects:<br />
<br />

This picture is from everydaysavvy.com and includes a tutorial if you need to review. Also, she has a free template printable on there for the wrapper. The only thing I did different was make the edges straight and tape them instead of cutting a slit and making a tab. <div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
This last class I taught at the scrapbook store, we focused on fun and quick gifts for Christmas. So here is a quick recap! </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Above, is a little kit with sugar cookie mix, hot chocolate mix, sprinkles in little containers, and dried marshmallow bits in an ornament. I also added some chocolate dipped spoons. You can see the original idea <a href="http://www.pinterest.com/pin/95208979596178322/" target="_blank">on pinterest here.</a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh7CYBlL3wrnvWcNgrwfCick-Qcvy540gqv9upX4iPWN3ctGTSEKpCWiUA9okoafyCIsM8jf1s96wagIe8tBiOmU2CzkY4TmQeAdG31gWKJ9u_y_I0_AvocAIpqzO86QXKmAFjQs77OGGQZ/s1600/photo+2.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh7CYBlL3wrnvWcNgrwfCick-Qcvy540gqv9upX4iPWN3ctGTSEKpCWiUA9okoafyCIsM8jf1s96wagIe8tBiOmU2CzkY4TmQeAdG31gWKJ9u_y_I0_AvocAIpqzO86QXKmAFjQs77OGGQZ/s1600/photo+2.JPG" height="320" width="230" /></a></div>
Next is a fun item you can pop in the mail for not very much. Cotton candy, dressed up!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjJKWxlrZMEUURIqwvryV-qQsSYZVw-v3PBgjfdciWdv1V__PG6hm2K5AihKdBg25-oJAyebzC_7mTjsStADrwE2FULQ1T-U7ti5xZQGoySyM03q3UO_oBQ_sGNFPJK-WSm_-iac8GmI1OH/s1600/photo+3.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjJKWxlrZMEUURIqwvryV-qQsSYZVw-v3PBgjfdciWdv1V__PG6hm2K5AihKdBg25-oJAyebzC_7mTjsStADrwE2FULQ1T-U7ti5xZQGoySyM03q3UO_oBQ_sGNFPJK-WSm_-iac8GmI1OH/s1600/photo+3.JPG" height="320" width="205" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I just got a container of cotton candy in the christmas aisle at walmart. It only weighs a few ounces, so you can mail it as a first class parcel for just a couple of dollars. I wrapped it around with some kraft paper and a cute scrapbook piece, and it's ready to go. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<a href="http://www.triedandtrueblog.com/rudolph-christmas-gift-free-printable/" target="_blank">Here</a>, on triedandtrue, I found one of the cutest ideas ever! <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://www.triedandtrueblog.com/triedandtrue/wp-content/uploads/2014/11/Rudolph-Easy-Christmas-Gift-SM2-5.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://www.triedandtrueblog.com/triedandtrue/wp-content/uploads/2014/11/Rudolph-Easy-Christmas-Gift-SM2-5.jpg" height="320" width="213" /></a></div>
It is an EOS lip balm as a rudolph nose! You can go to her site for the free printable. Also, one of the ladies in my class found the Walgreens brand of lip balm in the same shape, but it is shiny! Like Rudolph's nose. So cute.<br />
<br />
Another quick project we did was originally found <a href="http://www.damasklove.com/easy-like-sunday-morning-21/" target="_blank">HERE</a>, on damasklove. A great way to jazz up a kraft bag.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://www.damasklove.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/10/IMG_9267.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://www.damasklove.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/10/IMG_9267.jpg" height="320" width="231" /></a></div>
We also made these<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://bubblynaturecreations.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/11/Dip-Mix-Ornaments-1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://bubblynaturecreations.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/11/Dip-Mix-Ornaments-1.jpg" height="320" width="224" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
which can be found <a href="http://bubblynaturecreations.com/2013/11/dip-mix-ornaments.html" target="_blank">HERE</a> on bubblynaturecreations. I used the dip mix recipes from this blog <a href="http://www.budget101.com/content.php/183-dip-mixes" target="_blank">budget101</a>. We used the onion dip, fiesta dip, and copycat hidden valley ranch, but there are several others to choose from. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I also showed the ladies one of my fave gifts, hot chocolate on a stick! </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://giverslog.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/10/hot-chocolate-on-a-stick31.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://giverslog.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/10/hot-chocolate-on-a-stick31.jpg" height="246" width="320" /></a></div>

<div style="clear: both;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Last night I got to share some cute ideas with a super fun bunch of ladies, all having to do with jars! It was fun to talk about my one of my obsessions with some fellow crafters. So, here is a quick takeaway from the night. </span><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">You can bake and freeze these little gems! They are very sturdy and made for high temps, so bake away! They can also go from freezer to oven. If you premake a pie or some other concoction and then freeze instead of bake it, you can just pull out the number of jars you need, put them on a baking sheet, and bake those goodies. If you are worried about cracking, put them in the cold oven and turn it on to preheat. I don't know that it really makes a difference, but it might make you feel better! :)</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">So far, I have just been able to take any regular recipe and portion it into the jars and bake as usual. The only thing that might change is the length of cooking time, which might vary depending on what size jar you use, so keep a closer eye than usual until you have had a trial run of your recipe. Here is one of my faves, the cheesecake we had last night. It's one I combined from several different recipes and tinkered with until I was happy. </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
</div>
<h2 style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Cheesecake in a Jar</span></h2>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">2 cups cookie crumbs (I use Biscoff, available on amazon.com)</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">1/4 c brown sugar</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">1stick butter, melted</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">4 8 oz packages cream cheese, softened</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">1 1/2 c sugar</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">4 eggs, room temp</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">1 c sour cream</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">1 T vanilla </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Zest of 2 lemons</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Juice of 2 lemons</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Preheat oven to 350 F</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Mix first 3 ingredients-place 1 T in each of 24 jelly jars ( the 4 oz kind) and pat down. </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">In large bowl mix cream cheese and sugar until well blended. Add eggs, one at a time. Add lemon zest, juice, sour cream, and vanilla, and mix until blended. </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Using a large scoop, fill each jelly jar with about 1/3 cup filling, or up to bottom line. Place jars in large roasting pan or two cake pans and add hot water halfway up the outside of the jars. Bake for about 30 minutes. </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">I found this recipe <a href="http://www.theidearoom.net/tag/pumpkin-spice-sugar-scrubs" target="_blank">HERE</a> on idearoom.net. Take a bag of candy corn, a bag of indian corn, a bag of pumpkins, and a jar of honey roasted peanuts and mix them all together. It tastes like a Payday! Seriously. And it looks super cute in a jar. But what doesn't, really?</span></div>

Here's a quick review of class at TCC last week! We made these cute little guys:</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjDrGZLQ3JSPIxltNJfxOk1fg1d1dxElWhn6QMUX11rSHCdYZ2r8iFlBJk0EMQlB_3e0S0V8qTp9rYrZ4Cc_VfVIpt7p3PRG4arptkhFSK7Z-K-tbbKjxrAzDkULOWpTHSBxfo1zjNcEYA-/s1600/chickpops.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjDrGZLQ3JSPIxltNJfxOk1fg1d1dxElWhn6QMUX11rSHCdYZ2r8iFlBJk0EMQlB_3e0S0V8qTp9rYrZ4Cc_VfVIpt7p3PRG4arptkhFSK7Z-K-tbbKjxrAzDkULOWpTHSBxfo1zjNcEYA-/s1600/chickpops.jpg" height="400" width="328" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Here are some cake pop basics: </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Best website: <a href="http://www.bakerella.com/pops-bites/cake-pops/" target="_blank">bakerella.com</a>. Not only is her site really informative, she has the best eye candy! </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Basic recipe:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
1 cake mix, baked to instructions</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
1 can frosting</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
2 bags candy melts</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
lollipop sticks</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Crumble cake with hands into large bowl. Don't worry about crust pieces that don't crumble as easily. They will soften when the frosting is added. Add about 1/2 can of frosting. Mix well. If the mixture doesn't roll into a ball easily, add a little more frosting. Use a mini scoop to scoop your cake mixture. Roll in ball with your hands. Chill the cake balls for about an hour, until firm. When ready to dip the cake pops, melt the candy melts in a plastic bowl. Usually, this works best if you microwave at 50 percent power for 1 minute at a time, and then stir. Repeat until the melts are a nice consistency for dipping. If needed, add a little shortening to make it thinner, or coat more easily. Dip a lollipop stick into the candy mixture, just about 1/2". Then insert the stick into a cake ball. Allow to harden for a few seconds. Dip the cake ball, straight down and up out of the mixture. Gently tap the wrist that is holding the cake pop with your other hand to remove excess coating. Then, either put the cake pop on wax paper, upright, or insert into styrofoam block to cool. Decorate as desired. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Helpful hints:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Don't use cake mix with pudding in the mix.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Don't add too much frosting to begin with, you can always add more if you need, but if the mixture is too mushy, your cake pops will be hard to work with.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Coat twice if you want your pops to look nice and round and smooth.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Use toothpicks to apply extra coating, to "glue" on your candy, and to clean up edges.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
After dipping for a little while, your melts will have some moisture in them, and also might be getting a little hard. Zap them in the microwave with a little shortening to get the consistency right.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
And last, presentation is everything! Put them in a cute container!</div>

Here are a couple more ideas from class:</div>

Happy Mail!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

Start with a soda bottle, clean, dry and cut in half with a serrated knife and scissors.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhozYgSUboQLCR_A4fEh5WC56kHO7eCxIh1ueKl0BbhyphenhyphenjWfFDBIkVGFzHEsmq1S7BWmXyBjmEkM_uz0OGWARs-UJ6yJtH62xn-Op97daSX527RgqgcKtXrXyfyxgxV7zZhXbB8CedsqYA57/s1600/bottleing.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhozYgSUboQLCR_A4fEh5WC56kHO7eCxIh1ueKl0BbhyphenhyphenjWfFDBIkVGFzHEsmq1S7BWmXyBjmEkM_uz0OGWARs-UJ6yJtH62xn-Op97daSX527RgqgcKtXrXyfyxgxV7zZhXbB8CedsqYA57/s1600/bottleing.jpg" height="320" width="240" /></a></div>
Gather some cute, lightweight items for the inside.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjCAyPL1JmP9A_waUxl3FvLfmIMRj1C1romn7fSvdGcsgp52CWkmizURxTI5cdjsEk4A8UkONDGVD-hSMtDanz2JQ1n5cSJnVQkMfvFnq9C3yYgC48gzxeSs62VMBjv2MAqAa3CPm9NsOI3/s1600/filledbottle.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjCAyPL1JmP9A_waUxl3FvLfmIMRj1C1romn7fSvdGcsgp52CWkmizURxTI5cdjsEk4A8UkONDGVD-hSMtDanz2JQ1n5cSJnVQkMfvFnq9C3yYgC48gzxeSs62VMBjv2MAqAa3CPm9NsOI3/s1600/filledbottle.jpg" height="320" width="202" /></a></div>
Fill up both halves. Put the bottle back together with packing tape.<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Add a cute piece of card stock for a mailing label. Address and put stamps on it. You can check the USPS first class parcel rates <a href="https://www.usps.com/ship/first-class.htm" target="_blank">HERE</a>. Throw it into the blue mailbox! Enjoy your day, knowing you just made someone happy!</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Guess what I learned last week. You can make your own microwave popcorn. Seriously. After intensive research, I found that the best results were had from the combo of 1 1/2 Tablespoons of Orville Redenbacher popcorn kernels and a kraft treat bag, about 6"x9". That's it. Just put the popcorn in the bag, fold the top over about 1/2", 2 or three times and secure with washi tape or a staple. Pop for 1 and 1/2 minutes. (That was the magic time in our microwave. You might have to adjust for your own microwave's idiosyncrasies.) Your bag is just the right size for an individual snack, or you can share if you are both feeling really generous. Or not very hungry. We sprinkled melted butter and salt on ours. Yum. Here's a printable label to add to your bag if you want to give it away. </div>

I used a burlap canvas that was painted white, from hobby lobby. Then some chipboard letters, right out of my scrapbook stash. And also some craft paint-I used charcoal and mixed it with white to get the shade of gray I wanted. Simply paint the letters, let them dry, arrange them in the order you want, and then hot glue! <div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgXsARjWvjOjg2C96E-Abr2pJfuNhOLEfOZjv4k6xnfucIZTw5ekp_UYGs2WKzSiTEQQfyMb3mzRzV34pakwyuQlD49lw2OAMQkPeORGE1QEwFXCpEtUUyPDyReEp-MBSzgq-YGutfPf2Cg/s640/blogger-image-820706670.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgXsARjWvjOjg2C96E-Abr2pJfuNhOLEfOZjv4k6xnfucIZTw5ekp_UYGs2WKzSiTEQQfyMb3mzRzV34pakwyuQlD49lw2OAMQkPeORGE1QEwFXCpEtUUyPDyReEp-MBSzgq-YGutfPf2Cg/s640/blogger-image-820706670.jpg"></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;">My cute hubby liked to tell me that I am his favorite, so I shortened his saying to fit on the board. <div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
I just put a couple of really cute and simple projects together for a class I'm teaching next week. I love the washi glassine sunglasses holder! It's so cute and fast and since you can get a six pack of these little 4th of July sunglasses for about two bucks, it's also really inexpensive! </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
So here's the lowdown: </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEibN2XunPdjhZCoCoUVOwObTZVA3VdvGsWcde6lmQ6SzyU4sdlreDI4u11MxR1MalZjBp1qgKYew4GxBbQhv0MfnrMm7WhwcMEGpkNXygnZJJC-ixR4P8GRZbQf0QgGAJX2kL5K5cUxbnMZ/s640/blogger-image-1184089565.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEibN2XunPdjhZCoCoUVOwObTZVA3VdvGsWcde6lmQ6SzyU4sdlreDI4u11MxR1MalZjBp1qgKYew4GxBbQhv0MfnrMm7WhwcMEGpkNXygnZJJC-ixR4P8GRZbQf0QgGAJX2kL5K5cUxbnMZ/s640/blogger-image-1184089565.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
One glassine bag-I think this one is 3x4 inches. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjRgtpSJaA38sm4V5wZ_NY44YfK0dN-ERiQtD1YTiYAzig6UMKUBTFR9FYE9pMjJeRRFKZWuJJNoQmfqGRbvL7Yd2lAUT5OC_gBkRJdI_U-JfpZ6AzJhxZfWZzXzdz0dX-P9bjcSDiToTQV/s640/blogger-image-302436462.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjRgtpSJaA38sm4V5wZ_NY44YfK0dN-ERiQtD1YTiYAzig6UMKUBTFR9FYE9pMjJeRRFKZWuJJNoQmfqGRbvL7Yd2lAUT5OC_gBkRJdI_U-JfpZ6AzJhxZfWZzXzdz0dX-P9bjcSDiToTQV/s640/blogger-image-302436462.jpg" /></a></div>
Some patriotic washi tape, since these are for the 4th. Although, you could use any kind that matched your theme.<br />

Tear them off in varying lengths.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">

Apply in a simple pattern. I'm not a great designer, so I try to stick to the rule of three. </div>

Slip in the glasses, and you have a cute party favor! Pay no attention to the fact that this is a different pair of glasses that we started with! :). (These are not the droids you are looking for)<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
Repeat with any small gift that will slip into these cute and versatile bags! </div>

The envelope is a favor bag (from Pick Your Plum) with a 3x4 from the happy-go-lucky line by Kasie Fry from Echo Park. I thought the spring colors were perfect for a spring wedding, and they matched the bags and embellishments I had on hand. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjL2iXCtz4bke0ec3uqaJDnONaV0bx7Jr-IMsyBZT23dR_FHVdmZKLFOinWqVp5rxkcHwaywpnpsTXnJ3n84-siQNlRPGNfsf7_xrUhl9QWMyk48pcd4ru4SYKj-x2KMjfLxgwUd4_GLxIu/s640/blogger-image--1067873574.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjL2iXCtz4bke0ec3uqaJDnONaV0bx7Jr-IMsyBZT23dR_FHVdmZKLFOinWqVp5rxkcHwaywpnpsTXnJ3n84-siQNlRPGNfsf7_xrUhl9QWMyk48pcd4ru4SYKj-x2KMjfLxgwUd4_GLxIu/s640/blogger-image--1067873574.jpg"></a></div><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;">For the inside, I just cut a piece of patterned cardstock, from the same line, to fit into the favor bag. Then I attached a small glassine bag to the front for our gift, which is always cash. Because that's one thing newlyweds always need! I stuck a sticker flag from the EP paper onto a long toothpick and added some gingham ribbon and a sentiment sticker. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj83J4LAzuyJyTatSGr2d9NDV_yuPUk4LVxCAByaeiEkkdL2drq18oRR2C5tCFzp7g18rkaQC33dO8vbH8PTWnM5y6GF-YsYf52rYyyv5OGEwrlr9umN0W06HvUBZ8OV8_d3nJFxcyeDlaS/s640/blogger-image--1648873410.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj83J4LAzuyJyTatSGr2d9NDV_yuPUk4LVxCAByaeiEkkdL2drq18oRR2C5tCFzp7g18rkaQC33dO8vbH8PTWnM5y6GF-YsYf52rYyyv5OGEwrlr9umN0W06HvUBZ8OV8_d3nJFxcyeDlaS/s640/blogger-image--1648873410.jpg"></a></div><br></div><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;">Ta-da! So it's just been like 18 months since this party, but I am finally uploading pix to the computer and trying to declutter my to-do list. Bekah decided to have a teddy bear party, and she wanted purple and teal for her colors. So we went on a bear hunt-on Pinterest. Because there are a billion cute ideas involving teddy bears!<br />
<div>
<img alt="" id="id_cbca_9bee_1967_cddd" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh0SC30MFz80XKvlaGPWnlrTPZJfSGpGw2JxlXCvEF69o2L1l7ZPfiOmTVGH8txqRqOWq-lLNbyG3-HJA2HsZu2z5OHz2NcgjHnB10c2xX2CGNllInzVJNP4R-l75xZah8Mu-bHP0iTw0i1//" style="height: 388px; margin: 4px; width: 290px;" title="" /><br />
One of the best things about this party was the low cost decor. I learned how to make these awesome tissue flowers and we used them as a main ingredient. Add in some balloons, with a marble inside so they will hang upside down, twist up some streamers, and you have a lot of bang for your buck!</div>
<div>
<img alt="" id="id_8390_78e7_d33b_a26a" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg_hyphenhyphencasbVgsqEcvLiI6cEysUlOwLVlExotuUD4cVZ3HFbNF-AG-QOrdubUlB8COCX-4koOMUDES1Mvm9XpEyLDG6I4Sl7hgVob8eL5g6whFcEvcDFMbSHwP_0X8CRYfO5_N1rdBB8_TBYS//" style="height: 388px; margin: 4px; width: 290px;" title="" /></div>
<div>
We put some on the front door, too.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<img alt="" id="id_747f_d873_99f7_a98f" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjsVeSP10Ny8rHr_hKMkyUfCdctC9veveduO40Ve5ELVxtUd8mOICM7XtOtcnP_dbkWLLVgGZCuFkPIVUBDgArf-bqOcPuYLGrZ5iQnYIH4HsTnoNOxFdLhDppnW8X5sWduadc2CaF7pCKT//" style="height: 214px; margin: 4px; width: 290px;" title="" /></div>
<div>
These basic cupcakes are super cute with printables from chickabug.com. </div>
<div>
<img alt="" id="id_12e7_6d3a_ed6_376a" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjMZ0fGpVgbDlmFkUGwt7jlGf6kNpV_tWxw8YnEdMGAPxzkI3ES8otnebqy4fLZIvQlxCaJRK76HgDpTKwxRzU4-Pro3bLXTDAJ95M5M0-8aO05UqJQM514QCvwKIWSnxDXBY-GEUqRMpnc//" style="height: 211px; margin: 4px; width: 290px;" title="" /></div>
<div>
I actually took the cupcake wrapper (from chickabug) and cut it to fit the front of my plain blue treat bags. A little ribbon, and you have a custom treat bag worthy of any little girl's birthday wishes!<img alt="" id="id_3849_d406_e203_c2f1" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgjGfgQfcCaNdfFjRPakz-CsRw1jRtPXB0cuLiBWSohOvT3LSVBKSiY_vSySkvPncM67vgdRBpdwEH4z02Xo8XZppJtlRZ0ViyJGq7g83QuMBoATTubrn5XsEL59AVKDSNKMbzNJ8A-y_4n//" style="height: 193px; margin: 4px; width: 290px;" title="" /></div>
<div>
These are teddy bear Oreo pops. Just a double stuf Oreo dipped in candy coating, then mini Oreo for the ears, more googly eyes, a red mike n Ike, and another mini Oreo mouth. </div>
<div>
<img alt="" id="id_c3bf_f5f9_daa7_107" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjuksN4xDFGCwMjsSctD5feqtzKv-z7IEiG923lwmQGywoaMkA48abHnlODXYOKKUJ0oO3cpbEXaSSeUxorv6C6CTwJ625K2VQRbovPhBfzB5c3wkgkJo97dx__xczoJNX8Wunf-9JbBEi3//" style="height: 226px; margin: 4px; width: 278px;" title="" /></div>
<div>
<img id="id_483_55d2_147f_d8f5" src="6784935345n3f43v43s5gf534dd56d7i876545y6uio345678o9p0908786fd756f432432.GIF" style="height: 1px; width: 1px;" /> I attempted some bear cupcakes-I think these are just mini kisses, Wilton googly eyes, and then an upside down cocoa candy melt with a little frosting mouth and red hot nose. </div>
<div>
<img alt="" id="id_7a0b_63b4_20c4_b7c6" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEju_DjapsBoH8V2Au3FDQOjy0cQI-xpbCUa8lO2eniMx6tpQUvbLw9eF3adkXXFgQBgry5VEjcEKrvOaCru34IlXmRE2Iezk_PVJFsxC5B5tkyHqKY-verUPE1WAS7sP21vSEvOsccMXWzF//" style="height: 200px; margin: 4px; width: 290px;" title="" /></div>
<div>
I used another tissue pom, this one mini, to dress up my cake plate. I attached some ribbon with glue dots, and it held up well and then came right off when we were done! I also love using tissue paper to make jumbo confetti.</div>
<div>
<img alt="" id="id_3f7c_a807_6b4d_cef2" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiB87u9dWT6eqDPaP4hnaXZCFq8c3g_MJKcBYFZVjKPz3gCQhtcOYiN3YL5MTXTo9OjIosyQl-3hDvjAwxShd1NgoKH3VH0SSHCXUtvl6Sq4wU5rY0DNajGDD4nJFkMmcfHv38MW08CnNId//" style="height: 184px; margin: 4px; width: 290px;" title="" /></div>
<div>
We did two simple activities-one was making headbands with teddy bear ears.( I have no idea what happened to that picture. Or pix of the birthday girl, for that matter! Probably still in the digital clutter all around me...) But the other activity was making these cute teddy bear cars. A mini snickers bar, m&ms and teddy grahams, all glued on with candy coating. We also tried to have other bear-friendly foods: bit-o-honeys, more teddy grahams, nilla wafers and root "bear"! </div>
<div>
<img alt="" id="id_1ead_fe5f_e88b_eea4" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgOgo22HMUvos7qKS_4lowiMOk_YO9ISo8Cqiq9bNxKfdvYQN1x_YnjGg9gRC6Rpm01jHOvikbMhsZYKQJVrjUs9fUQ7SjcuYjpr1ogwDZ29K2JtcFPLXVGkmixIUWQqMA-2DUuZVtr1xY8//" style="height: 183px; margin: 4px; width: 290px;" title="" /></div>
<div>
A "beary" good time was had by all! (Sorry, I couldn't resist that one.)</div>

<span style="font-family: Verdana;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">So I took a HUGE blogging break. I have no idea what happened...just crazy busy! I thought I would catch up by posting some of the fun packages I sent Andy this past year. Maybe I'll get them done before he comes home! </span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">This is one idea I had seen in several different places on the web. I loved the idea of sending him a box of sunshine, and I think I sent it as they were heading into winter on that side of the planet. </span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I bought everything I could find that was yellow, edible, non-perishable, and possibly useful to a missionary. This is what I came up with: </span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><img alt="" height="340" id="id_4a50_7953_d9a3_bd2b" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhaqAJRBAI9H8Cs8Mru5Zo8z36DsWfzu9wxjlP3EkorhoRByzWR4b-joBKGIpTgm97lTg227e0soiCt-atnbh82O2NFePMUn6x9FxSLcrzRw197Gb_TO4weMuRhXA6xDVMZWNEnNMuwl0ZE//" style="height: 247px; margin: 4px; width: 290px;" title="" width="400" /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">and this:</span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><img alt="" height="400" id="id_5a45_3536_3a35_8d0d" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhq2LIRYQkg_7BWqE7hRGVuNbCGpveL-Vz4yFXuofQLX3ZiTbkf-E1zOl6NaV2-HZfNZrUFk36i60BcfvN3Nzs7dW1G_XUkIw007FAsOyr-AHMlq4TR54ru-o3KTYqq0_fVAvPvqXGjAPFa//" style="height: 307px; margin: 4px; width: 290px;" title="" width="377" /></span></div>

<div>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Because the only thing better than cereal, is cereal in a little box. That cost 95.00 to ship. That makes it extra yummy. :) </span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I just threw it all in a box, blew up some balloons as padding, and topped it with this cute sign! </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"> <img alt="" height="299" id="id_77e5_c1fd_d072_c2a4" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgoxEGUkTk7ovsUeJ46I1iGia3Ei9d-z1xHAM6gu5b2F0SiiHxC7IdwPI9sLZPSDUJnGnruMNuammpZmFXwXURpNoWXnX4DzW12MD6hHLBxcgitGrF59mkvST8yUm8A9b92v8ADJ51Qcd3-//" style="height: 217px; margin: 4px; width: 290px;" title="" width="400" /></span></div>

<div style="margin: 0px;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana;">I think I got this as a freebie from some super creative gal. I can't find the exact link, but <a href="http://funkypolkadotgiraffe.blogspot.com/2013/02/box-of-sunshine-gift-to-brighten-day.html" target="_blank">here from funky polka dot giraffe</a> are some other super cute printables. And you can use these <a href="http://craftyteacherlady.blogspot.com/2013/01/sunshine-box.html" target="_blank">this one from crafty teacher lady.</a> I know that boys don't really care about this stuff, but I like to put a little extra effort into my care packages. I think it's my way of trying to send my love, support, worries, and prayers without words. Because I think cereal and peanut butter help remind missionaries of a home where there are hundreds of prayers being said for them everyday. Plus, someone has to keep the post office in business, right?</span></div>

<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">A couple of weekends ago I had the privilege of helping host a baby memorial shower for a sweet friend. What is a baby memorial shower, you ask? A party you never want to throw. Mandy and her husband Bryan welcomed their son, Levi on December 27, 2013. He only lived a few hours. I wanted to do something that would both celebrate the fact that Mandy was a mother, (Levi was their first child), and also help support her in her loss. Having received a diagnosis of Trisomy 18, they knew that he wouldn't be with them very long, and were prepared as they could be, but seriously, how do you prepare for that? I did a lot of scouring of the internet and a lot of crying. There is a lot of heartbreak out there. And not a lot of ideas for a shower honoring a baby who has passed on. I am posting this in the hope that it will help someone else in a similar situation. We decided to do a memorial shower where people could bring personal gifts for Mandy and we could do a simple service project that we could then donate in Levi's memory to some local hospitals.</span></div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">I started with a theme-Okay, I started with a little Facebook stalking. I saw that Mandy was a LOTR nerd. I also like LOTR. There are some amazing quotes on Pinterest. I loved this one, "Even the smallest person can change the course of the future." That was what we used for our shower invitation theme. It also helped that the decorations could be woodsy and not your typical baby pink and blue. </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">There are some AMAZING hobbit and LOTR party ideas out there. I found some amazing ones <a href="http://showerofroses.blogspot.com/2013/07/a-long-expected-party.html" target="_blank">here.</a> Serious cuteness. I got the printable for the door sign there. It was totally fun to hang it on the front door of the house where we had the shower. </span></div>

<br />
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">Typical shower games didn't seem quite appropriate, but I still wanted people to have fun, so we started off with Hobbit name tags. I found a chart on Pinterest, and printed it in a font I found on dafont.com called hobbiton. Also, everyone grabbed a clothespin, which is a typical shower game, out of a bucket and had to not say the words "precious" or "cute" without losing their clothespin. The lady with the most pins at the end won a prize. </span></div>

<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">They became a big part of our display in the living room. We asked Mandy for some things that she might have from Levi's birth, and added some pix that we got developed and made into a photo display.</span></div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">Here are some closeups of the photo display board. I used the quote from the invitation, and also a cute rhyme someone had made on the internet. I didn't want to just copy their work, so I just printed up the rhyme with no fancy graphics-if anyone knows who deserves credit, I would be happy to acknowledge them! I just couldn't find a source!</span></div>

<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">I have to say this is one of my favorite pix of Levi. He looks like he is blowing a kiss. So I filled up this little crate with kisses, and made a tag that said "kisses from Levi". And I used it for one of our other games. I found a LOTR the One ring on amazon, and hid it, in the candy. I told the guests whoever found the ring would get a prize. It was really fun that Mandy, the guest of honor, found the ring! She said it was just because she spent so much time eating chocolate. :) Isn't she beautiful? </span></div>

<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">We have always loved the story I'll Love You Forever by Robert Munsch. I have read it to all my kids and our copy is falling apart. When I started researching everything I could find about losing babies, I found that the author had written this book as a tribute to his two stillborn babies. We decided to use a copy of this book for our guest book and have everyone write a special message in it. </span></div>

<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">After eating and socializing we moved on to the project. We made some teeny tears diapers. You can read more about this special project at <a href="http://teenytears.blogspot.com/" target="_blank">teenytears.blogspot.com</a>. These diapers are TINY. We were able to cut and sew and put together many sets. We actually are still finishing up some of them, and will be donating them soon. The teenytears site provides you with donation cards that have the name of the baby you are honoring and the group of people who donated them. </span></div>

<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">We also did a balloon release, which didn't photograph well, because I picked blue balloons. Hello. The sky is also blue. Also, I first tried it without helium except in Mandy's giant balloon, because here in OK everything blows away, right? Yeah, not so much. Needless to say, it was kind of a disaster, but it was joyous and provided some laughter!</span></div>

<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">Some last decor details. Oh, and I need to shout out to Tasha, our amazing photographer who donated her time to chronicle the day's events for Mandy, Carrie who made her gorgeous house available, Jen for all her many talents, Rhiannon who is all-around fabulous, and my own SIL Laurie who lovingly edited the pix Mandy and her family took of their brief but precious time with Levi. Hopefully, aside from Marianne who is the only person who actually reads this blog, someone who really needs it will find their way here and find a little bit of inspiration to help lift another mom's burden just a tiny bit. </span></div>

<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif; font-size: large;">So eight months later...here are some pix of the birthday party/mission farewell we had for Andy. This is a terrible pic, but as usual, my camera was no where to be found so I had to use my phone. I drew out the colors of the Uruguayan flag, white, yellow, and royal blue. It was the end of August so there were sunflowers everywhere, a perfect addition to the table.</span></div>

<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif; font-size: large;">This was a super easy detail but added a lot of drama- I took strips of crepe paper and cut them in varying lengths and then stitched them together on my sewing machine to create a garland. <a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgU-apF92qczW9VbJE2ypA0BLljFLiZWU9CIYsVxkZ6P8blhOAB3EQceMLUKWJkSE3DnI97XYYxV_UMWH0rbFNKgTFHkoXNgRGKqktz6-OT25hdL-RFZFSg0St6ablFU_4vYX19YalVwi4i/s1600/Slide1.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-align: center;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgU-apF92qczW9VbJE2ypA0BLljFLiZWU9CIYsVxkZ6P8blhOAB3EQceMLUKWJkSE3DnI97XYYxV_UMWH0rbFNKgTFHkoXNgRGKqktz6-OT25hdL-RFZFSg0St6ablFU_4vYX19YalVwi4i/s320/Slide1.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">I know, kind of dramatic, huh? But this is my journal, so I am journaling about my life today. Do I think estrogen is really killing you? No idea. Perhaps if you are in the same circumstances I am, then it could be. Do I think it is killing me? Yes. Why? Here we go:</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif; font-size: x-large;">Number 1</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiSkPyxURUXEWD-MzVk-49NdfdL3yeXGRasxubhN-irYKg6h6l5xTRH1G6k4qpS5fbxIQ2H7ko4Bl_FZq-EvweCZmb8t6rEHqY0GwKddt0UiFnYUHhbUyNL_RVos_WxvntvYS-5FNlRX_Gd/s1600/rachel.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiSkPyxURUXEWD-MzVk-49NdfdL3yeXGRasxubhN-irYKg6h6l5xTRH1G6k4qpS5fbxIQ2H7ko4Bl_FZq-EvweCZmb8t6rEHqY0GwKddt0UiFnYUHhbUyNL_RVos_WxvntvYS-5FNlRX_Gd/s320/rachel.jpg" width="213" /></span></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">Yes, here we have exhibit A: the nearly graduated high school senior. She is deceptively lovely and delightful. Talented, brilliant, loving, and mostly happy. BUT! Underneath that charming exterior lies a seething cauldron of teenage angst, independence, and ESTROGEN. She is ready to fly the coop, and I am ready to let her. Don't get me wrong-I will miss my daughter, but the DRAMA she comes with, not so much: what drama you ask? what to wear, what to major in, what to have for dinner, and my all time favorite, what to order in the drive through, which usually occurs immediately AFTER we order at the drive through. Then there is the classic burst into tears if you ask me about my day, for no particular reason. It will probably be boring around here when she goes off to BYU in the fall. Then again, maybe not: </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif; font-size: x-large;"> Number 2</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif; font-size: x-large; margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-align: center;"> <a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgvZAoPQZoSowqQMZThfeWJQkzFDb3ki1CZhBdBtbTXmdk_NGRp73ObCDXak6TWS6oTheJFSPaCQA1WU1TL8slSbdrGNL-rdo-dye4F6Q3A4kiKncIdBN9A8ngrdKVIwRBoFytK0cadsang/s1600/ellie.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-align: center;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgvZAoPQZoSowqQMZThfeWJQkzFDb3ki1CZhBdBtbTXmdk_NGRp73ObCDXak6TWS6oTheJFSPaCQA1WU1TL8slSbdrGNL-rdo-dye4F6Q3A4kiKncIdBN9A8ngrdKVIwRBoFytK0cadsang/s320/ellie.jpg" width="213" /></a></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">That's because we have exhibit B-the middle schooler!</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">She is also lovely and delightful. Also, very responsible, self-motivated and organized. Clearly brilliant and talented as well. But she got her mother's tendencies toward control-freakiness. Is that a word? It is now. Mix that with the hormonal changes beginning to take place, and we have an ESTROGEN BOMB and no way to disarm it. Luckily, she won't be leaving home for several more years, so she has some time to even out. Because, once again: DRAMA. Usually about being late, or not doing things the right way, or most often about Number 3 doing something to drive her absolutely bonkers, like breathing. You know, something annoying like that. We LOVE puberty!</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif; font-size: x-large;"> Number 3</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEisZBbayZ2maOdekX_ifroSQG9rqeeyGlltkK3KuATHAu9PAZoXTFVKW6SN7QT6unI-YJxQcyBCSIkPfHYnGRdJetBbeztc0nL8eOXcGlyd6PC2rbN3_vvEo4z5y08Iwnm099yGQU2d9hNr/s1600/bekakh.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEisZBbayZ2maOdekX_ifroSQG9rqeeyGlltkK3KuATHAu9PAZoXTFVKW6SN7QT6unI-YJxQcyBCSIkPfHYnGRdJetBbeztc0nL8eOXcGlyd6PC2rbN3_vvEo4z5y08Iwnm099yGQU2d9hNr/s320/bekakh.jpg" width="213" /></a></span></div>
<br />
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">Exhibit C-the 3rd grader. DO NOT be fooled by that smile. Or those dimples. Or those big, gray/blue eyes. This girl can throw some world class tantrums. I don't know if it is a function of the estrogen, or of being the baby of the family. She is also beautiful, brilliant, talented, and kind. But she can push every one of my buttons. I think we are finally starting to outgrow some of that; probably just in time to arrive at puberty! Yay.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span>

<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">Exhibit D and E: the dogs. Who are both girls. I know. Why we have so many girls in this house, I don't know. But there it is. They are spayed, but they still have estrogen. How do I know? Because they are also dramatic little princesses. They spend their days ordering me around to let them in. Or out. Or feed them. Or water them. Or put them on the bed. Well, that is just Sara, our 13 year old dog. Sugar just hops right on top of me, and nestles in between my legs like that is her bed. They are also cute and brilliant. </span></div>

<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">Actually, maybe I should be Number 5, because I have entered the wondrous world of perimenopause. What is that you ask? Well, it is all the ups and downs of the 11 year old, with the tantrums of the baby, and the insecurities that the high-schooler has! Plus, night sweats. Fun stuff. I really think it might kill me. But don't feel sorry for me. You should feel sorry for my husband. Who,since Andy left for college and then a mission, is the ONLY man in this house of 6 girls. Bless his heart. </span></div>

</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgwKw8CZSkEGNtObjGEckscp24wkaFO88YPTF_SaDMHf7OXvbm2h2FxhIuqPa-xQfxKW3BTQBHuYowaZofR8qvUQbFcBU5YTyfVaKMOay0y9ZJslDnwnJjd8hoyNPZwzT860InZYeM8yXln/s1600/Slide1.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgwKw8CZSkEGNtObjGEckscp24wkaFO88YPTF_SaDMHf7OXvbm2h2FxhIuqPa-xQfxKW3BTQBHuYowaZofR8qvUQbFcBU5YTyfVaKMOay0y9ZJslDnwnJjd8hoyNPZwzT860InZYeM8yXln/s320/Slide1.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">This isn't a rhetorical question, like "where do socks go when you put them in the dryer?" or "am I the only person in here who can see that huge pile of unfolded laundry?" or " what is it exactly that meatloaf won't do for love? He'll do anything else, but not this?" </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">I guess that's not really a question in the title, more like a thesis statement. Anyway, I digress. The reason you shouldn't keep your workout clothes in the same drawer as your jammies is that you may be running late one day. And then, you will remember you have a hot streak of two days at the gym running, so you will run to your room and throw some clothes in your bag. Fast forward to after work, into the gym bathroom, where you have on yoga pants, socks, shoes, and sports bra. You reach in to your bag and grab your gray t-shirt...I mean, your gray pajama bottoms! I will admit right now that if it had been the gray pj top I would have totally worn that sucker. But I couldn't quite figure out what to do with the pants. Wrap them like a sarong-type thing? Wear them on my head? And keep in mind that just wearing a sports bra as a top is only acceptable if you are under the age of 30 and/or you look like Jillian Michaels. I am neither of those things. However, wanting to keep my aforementioned fitness streak going, I dug in my bag and found a black hoodie sweatshirt. That zipped. So I could wear it over the sports bra but zipped down to have a little ventilation and even look not as frumpy as I usually do when working out. I am not going to lie. It was hot. But I persevered and did my 40 minutes of HIIT! Now I am going to celebrate with a Reese's peanut butter cup. But with a diet coke, so the calories are canceled out. True story. And I am packing for the gym the night BEFORE from now on. </span>Tamihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00256805725874857266noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5619103328468116170.post-16715017059296540052013-01-29T15:25:00.000-08:002013-01-29T15:25:13.704-08:00How to Give a Missionary a Heart Attack<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">Not a real one of course. That would be crazy! But I am always trying to think of ways to brighten our missionary's day, and since Valentine's Day is coming up, we sent him a heart attack! Even though I am pretty sure they don't celebrate Valentine's Day in Uruguay. It's a great excuse for chocolate. Right?<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj10v-xjh2QasTT_rJkq69GentFlNLa_Q1tTKhrlPx_Oudo82ztFM6Z2JYaPlcX-tI9xKxkJtdhH9yPVjwRRTcGaYTcm2aegqGb_wecSiTv9LZwDtUIcUs1oq_ogRQ1Gug8SBHBV8Hv27xD/s1600/heartattack1.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj10v-xjh2QasTT_rJkq69GentFlNLa_Q1tTKhrlPx_Oudo82ztFM6Z2JYaPlcX-tI9xKxkJtdhH9yPVjwRRTcGaYTcm2aegqGb_wecSiTv9LZwDtUIcUs1oq_ogRQ1Gug8SBHBV8Hv27xD/s320/heartattack1.JPG" width="239" /></a></span></div>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"> Step one is to cut out a bunch of paper hearts. Any size, any shape. I advise having your three daughters do this. If you don't have three daughters, look around. Someone does. You can borrow mine. Then, write some sweet nothings on your hearts. Or sweet somethings. I think we wrote things we love about Andy, and also Valentine's wishes. I use the term "we" loosely, because I was so busy getting everything together, that I didn't write on one. single. heart. *sigh* What kind of missionary mom am I? Anyway, he still got lots of love from the girls and dad, and schlepping the package to the post office and filling out the customs form should get me some props, right?</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhfWFD6MpiwkWiKgnav4nHHiBzLDVjFAmHYnw62PdM28GsAMQ7bjupH4naN_mrJUH0fgv_XZMg1vAnEzHYqVt980IjgY-SdfGprUlsdhHsi3qQ0eAdfLq4AH7_gguK2D6-uDSs_B4oJDCsf/s1600/heartattack2.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhfWFD6MpiwkWiKgnav4nHHiBzLDVjFAmHYnw62PdM28GsAMQ7bjupH4naN_mrJUH0fgv_XZMg1vAnEzHYqVt980IjgY-SdfGprUlsdhHsi3qQ0eAdfLq4AH7_gguK2D6-uDSs_B4oJDCsf/s320/heartattack2.JPG" width="239" /></span></a></div>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">Step two. Throw in a whole bunch of candy. We did hugs, kisses, and peanut butter hearts. I would do whatever your missionary/recipient likes. Sprinkle liberally over the hearts. </span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhQkJfJUXE59si8KPTQgbCxX4eBLtCxhrKitgYgmTPORpgr_Q7S8ta1N-Sniu0iurU6QEQMVJiP8qKixUiAVnCZoFF_ZthguZR5wNYrAF88VRwhQh7z_9cWgbf58s_dr-FWXZKc05NJBLlO/s1600/heartattack3.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhQkJfJUXE59si8KPTQgbCxX4eBLtCxhrKitgYgmTPORpgr_Q7S8ta1N-Sniu0iurU6QEQMVJiP8qKixUiAVnCZoFF_ZthguZR5wNYrAF88VRwhQh7z_9cWgbf58s_dr-FWXZKc05NJBLlO/s320/heartattack3.JPG" width="239" /></span></a></div>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">Step three. Since we are sending this to a boy, I always try to include some kind of toy that can be thrown, flipped, or bounced. For some reasons, missionaries never get tired of those kinds of things. Jumping frogs are perfect. Plus, I figure he can always give them away to little Uruguayan kids. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">That's it! Super simple and guaranteed to make someone's day! And way more fun than a real heart attack. Also, a lot less serious. </span>Tamihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00256805725874857266noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5619103328468116170.post-18544664222101490382012-12-28T17:54:00.001-08:002012-12-28T17:54:39.173-08:00cs lewis printable<div style="text-align: center;">

<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjMncQ2dz1a7B4O-IOLgWNBgSEGYkwWR4CPuT_GS2XOHi_t-MXEC2VWCi0fy79k3aWci1RwTgB2zU_V4WdtDCAI3C9GDqggaoy6pY-0HTQ0t-C_Q17szSpin22JxYNcYspSm3VjYN-fHKx1/s1600/stocking3.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjMncQ2dz1a7B4O-IOLgWNBgSEGYkwWR4CPuT_GS2XOHi_t-MXEC2VWCi0fy79k3aWci1RwTgB2zU_V4WdtDCAI3C9GDqggaoy6pY-0HTQ0t-C_Q17szSpin22JxYNcYspSm3VjYN-fHKx1/s320/stocking3.JPG" width="275" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I wanted to make Andy a cute missionary stocking for Christmas, and I found a link <a href="http://home.comcast.net/~tams_stockings/index.html" target="_blank">here</a> where you can order a stocking pattern. But let's face it, you already know I am lazy, and it was already November. So I went to Hobby Lobby and found two black satin stockings. ( I try to do doubles of everything so the comp. gets to share in the joy!) I just used this as a base and for the "slacks" portion of the stocking. Next, I traced the upper area of the stocking onto the back of some sticky back white felt (with the paper still on!) I cut it out and stuck it on. Then I sketched a collar template, don't forget to do one in reverse, and cut two of those. Then I followed with a small pocket, which was just basically a small rectangle. I would put my templates on here, but I know everyone will find different stockings, so just using </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
your own as a pattern is the best idea, I think. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjheCrz7mvRV30cUqHGbTfAZQcknDi00C-k_8prFO8Go4W98Bws2_nnlt8gUYK_5TdiNJYjU0NVi7qFASEkCk2ZKjVibibLOero6SHiNH2GVPIguC4VQZV63E2SXTo5hu83m1m3Y6LyaS3G/s1600/stocking.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjheCrz7mvRV30cUqHGbTfAZQcknDi00C-k_8prFO8Go4W98Bws2_nnlt8gUYK_5TdiNJYjU0NVi7qFASEkCk2ZKjVibibLOero6SHiNH2GVPIguC4VQZV63E2SXTo5hu83m1m3Y6LyaS3G/s320/stocking.JPG" width="214" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I also hot glued some buttons on the collar and down the shirt front. The next detail I added was a belt. Again, I just traced the width of the stocking and made a strip about an inch tall. This was also cut from sticky back felt. I stuck it on, then cut a small rectangle out of yellow felt, which I hot glued, and then topped with an even smaller rectangle of brown. I added a little sliver of yellow to be the tongue of the belt. Wait, is that what it's called? Anyway, that pokey thing that goes through the belt holes.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
That one.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
It's just a sliver of yellow felt. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh5Q7fzrIGTTevuvDAOVt1UxFCO0e_1nZwSss2CESCjdCudc5jwyG2S-sEmxe1WHDPIoyzUi2og2y5p-d4VybYIeWcC3D0CWur3_Zs7rgW9lV3YhkV6BsNT2CSNihHK2id5qjY79WTwsTuD/s1600/stocking2.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh5Q7fzrIGTTevuvDAOVt1UxFCO0e_1nZwSss2CESCjdCudc5jwyG2S-sEmxe1WHDPIoyzUi2og2y5p-d4VybYIeWcC3D0CWur3_Zs7rgW9lV3YhkV6BsNT2CSNihHK2id5qjY79WTwsTuD/s320/stocking2.JPG" width="181" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
On to the tie! I first had my husband tie some ties for me out of wide ribbon. But they wouldn't lay right, or stay tied, and finally, I got the genius idea of just pinching the tie where I wanted the knot to be and pleating it a little with my fingers and gluing it. Then, I wrapped that portion with a smooth piece of ribbon, shaped it into a triangle, and glued that. Then the whole shebang gets glued onto the stocking. I did leave the lower part of the tie unattached, because I thought it looked cuter that way. Do it however your heart desires! </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I found a download for the tag <a href="http://www.mormonshare.com/taxonomy/term/1237/missionary-tags" target="_blank">here</a>. I just inserted into a powerpoint slide and put in the names myself. Then printed and laminated them. I don't know how well they stayed on, I will have to ask my son, but I did try to glue them on there pretty well. </div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
Hope this inspires you to send some joy to your missionary! And since Rachel wants to go as soon as Andy comes home, I am sure I will be coming up with a sister missionary stocking!</div>

<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"> So, when Andy left on his mission a few months ago, I thought it would be helpful to send some pre-written letters with him. Ones that he could open and read, or re-read when he needed them. So I wrote six letters for him to take. I think. I didn't actually make notes until after he left, so I am remembering as best I can. If I didn't remember perfectly, then these are six letters that I wish I had written! I wrote each one on a card, with a scripture or thought on the front of the card, and the body of the letter inside. I am going to share the quotes and subjects, or ones that I think would be helpful, since I can't actually remember everything! I wrote when he should open each letter on the outside of the envelope. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">1. Open on First day-I wrote this on the front, "Lift up your heart and rejoice, for the hour of your mission is come; and your tongue shall be loosed, and you shall declare glad tidings of great joy unto this generation." (Doctrine and Covenants 31:3) This was the scripture Sis. Pinegar read to us when I entered the MTC many years ago, and it struck me with such great force that I remembered it often both as a missionary, and since. I wrote inside about how joyful we were that he was getting this amazing privilege to serve the Lord. And how much joy he would receive from this great opportunity.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">2. Open when things are hard with your companion- Idea for the quote: "“Do not waste time bothering whether you ‘love’ your neighbor; act as if you did. As soon as we do this we find one of the great secrets. When you are behaving as if you loved someone, you will presently come to love him.” C.S. Lewis</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I shared my experiences of difficult companionships, and also my advice- to serve and pray for your companion.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">3. Open when things are good- I put this scripture on the front-"Yea, I know that I am nothing; as to my strength I am weak; therefore I will not boast of myself, but I will boast of my God, for in his strength I can do all things; yea, behold, many mighty miracles we have wrought in this land, for which we will praise his name forever." Alma 26:12-This was the scripture I chose for my mission plaque. I tried to always remember that I was just an instrument in the Lord's hands, working for his glory. Inside, I wrote about humility and gratitude.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">4. Open when things are really hard-Idea for the front: I think I put this scripture "And if men come unto me I will show unto them their weakness. I give unto men weakness that they may be humble; and my grace is sufficient for all men that humble themselves before me; for if they humble themselves before me, and have faith in me, then will I make weak things become strong unto them." Ether 12:27. I think I wrote about just hanging in there when things are tough, because you are never alone. And how trials really do strengthen us in ways that we can't see or understand at the time.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">5. Open when you are doing everything right, but nothing is going right- I think I put this scripture on the front about the stripling warriors. "Yea, and they did obey and observe to perform every word of command with exactness; yea, and even according to their faith it was done unto them; and I did remember the words which they said unto me that their mothers had taught them." Alma 57:21. I wrote about how sometimes, we have an "obedience month", as one of my companions called it. When the Lord wants to see just how obedient you will be, even if the blessings aren't coming right away. Actually, I think he wants US to know how obedient we can be. Every missionary has an obedience month or two. </span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">6. Open on your last day- I didn't send this letter with him, thinking that I would mail it as it gets closer. I just hope I don't forget! Scripture for the front: "Well done, thou good and faithful servant: thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy lord." Matt. 25:21</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I would write about all the blessings we have received as a family, and that he has received as a missionary, and how great a privilege it is to serve the Lord with all your heart. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I know that in this digital age, we need something tangible that we can hold and touch and read over and over. I hope this gives you some ideas that you can use to help your missionaries! I had the experience of serving a mission, but even if you are not an RM yourself, you have had many experiences in your life that you can draw on to give counsel and encouragement to your warriors!</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">P.S. My son is brilliant. I mean that literally. But he JUST figured out that the cards OPEN and that there is something INSIDE! *sigh* So if your son/daughter is of the absent-minded variety, you might want to let them know that these are more than just quote cards!!!</span>Tamihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00256805725874857266noreply@blogger.com12tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5619103328468116170.post-9039429705110982912012-12-28T12:41:00.001-08:002012-12-28T12:41:25.126-08:00Hanging Advent Tutorial<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEisa7Pu_2PeR1Fp5mEptJC8ZqzS6FBepnxB1xczFkXrx7quNl4VmCyiD7J9ZoifQ3qmu_tacylrpGC_TJbQrcV02qFNjeITyNhOKMqLt6iM4HkIDr597TRiN3Q_8MRwkS2CESPyR6Kf8JmY/s1600/advent1.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="239" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEisa7Pu_2PeR1Fp5mEptJC8ZqzS6FBepnxB1xczFkXrx7quNl4VmCyiD7J9ZoifQ3qmu_tacylrpGC_TJbQrcV02qFNjeITyNhOKMqLt6iM4HkIDr597TRiN3Q_8MRwkS2CESPyR6Kf8JmY/s320/advent1.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
I don't even know if I would call this a tutorial, because it was so easy! I went to Hobby Lobby and bought this driftwood frame, using my 40% coupon. I know lots of crafty/thrifty people out there would go find a pallet and take it apart and make their own, but I am lazy. And I don't know where to find pallets. Or how to make a frame. So... I just bought one. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhl-zc5fq3I45UIqs0EUsQCRyu2kCQohYFQx9I-zdKVPYFnyVeaewIKMgRJmOPmd8puCfMDEAS6ZQ1WhefYQIT9AOQGspi8f1WM09lSf5d4WjuowcuRmXy3K0ZAF3vkT5DU2uy9EoivGqD8/s1600/jutetwine.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="200" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhl-zc5fq3I45UIqs0EUsQCRyu2kCQohYFQx9I-zdKVPYFnyVeaewIKMgRJmOPmd8puCfMDEAS6ZQ1WhefYQIT9AOQGspi8f1WM09lSf5d4WjuowcuRmXy3K0ZAF3vkT5DU2uy9EoivGqD8/s200/jutetwine.jpg" width="168" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Then I took a length of jute twine (like in the picture above, which can be found pretty much at any craft store), and wrapped and knotted it around one side of the frame. Then I stretched it across and knotted it on the other side. I did two "clotheslines", but if your frame is bigger or taller, you could do more. Also, I really procrastinated so we did the 12 days of Christmas instead of a 24 day advent countdown. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Then I added these:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiS6u5ApZ7FeeU8PSXAJcCUuv3Arloc1_rI1VUHke_NKEE67zBRDFhv0Ye4zxefHDbMJKfIIXCDv0O8SzT6u-vBHSAhFj8dBypl1_Tkk_2PRel3JXaLOgXh3KRV_N4Zytw2HX16nRNZ46l1/s1600/envelopeclips.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiS6u5ApZ7FeeU8PSXAJcCUuv3Arloc1_rI1VUHke_NKEE67zBRDFhv0Ye4zxefHDbMJKfIIXCDv0O8SzT6u-vBHSAhFj8dBypl1_Tkk_2PRel3JXaLOgXh3KRV_N4Zytw2HX16nRNZ46l1/s320/envelopeclips.JPG" width="239" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Mini kraft envelopes and mini clothespins, both from canvas home basics line of scrapbooking, found at Hobby Lobby. I just clipped the envelopes on to the twine with a clothespin. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjvJ888lZK2vvk4ZDjKLrEiKC41e049TTdzFCwuZo8EckcZkF8jF9uH_boVyR4Hp7Q7_SecAhFDbyGCbcPzs-PumW3Pn1C4MNoZjZGFXfhmEiWNIJmbwrY7qTS_lw18FDjAJUjm7qatGGdL/s1600/santaadventtag.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="239" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjvJ888lZK2vvk4ZDjKLrEiKC41e049TTdzFCwuZo8EckcZkF8jF9uH_boVyR4Hp7Q7_SecAhFDbyGCbcPzs-PumW3Pn1C4MNoZjZGFXfhmEiWNIJmbwrY7qTS_lw18FDjAJUjm7qatGGdL/s320/santaadventtag.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Then I slipped a little card with an activity on it in an envelope. Oh! I almost forgot! I printed off numbers 1-12 from different fonts that I liked and cut them and glued them to the front of the envelope. </div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj7X_PgMsXpk9gW_rTN0iFLq8z2yYal95FwCIpM9f2HLa8lZbhIna75y7hnWYx-kRBuJE_ttLfjW9RSM-a2KqCiyhkxVWq6kGXc9Si1Xc9TuNDr-LmPZXBtI1obtT0oJa4yhzgxXxgLgppm/s1600/photo+(3).JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj7X_PgMsXpk9gW_rTN0iFLq8z2yYal95FwCIpM9f2HLa8lZbhIna75y7hnWYx-kRBuJE_ttLfjW9RSM-a2KqCiyhkxVWq6kGXc9Si1Xc9TuNDr-LmPZXBtI1obtT0oJa4yhzgxXxgLgppm/s320/photo+(3).JPG" width="239" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
See how cute it is! Don't forget some baker's twine! It makes everything cute. Even brown paper bags. Especially brown paper bags. I just tucked some berry picks around each corner, and it was done! Easy-peasy. Seriously, the longest part was cutting out the numbers.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
Here is my calendar hanging on the wall. What fabulous pix my iphone takes. Sigh. Maybe next year Santa will bring me a nice d-slr camera. :)<br />
<br />
There you have it! If you want to see what we did, here is an example of some of my <a href="https://docs.google.com/open?id=0B5ZcZfhyRbu1R1NSUDh1MUg1WFk" target="_blank">activity cards</a>. If you want to use my numbers, here is a file of <a href="https://docs.google.com/open?id=0B5ZcZfhyRbu1NndXUEpraHk1TXc" target="_blank">cards 1-24</a>. You can just print off whichever ones you need. I just bubble cut around each number. You could also buy stickers, but I was too cheap to buy 12 different kinds of number stickers! Plus, I got to create my own. Enjoy!Tamihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00256805725874857266noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5619103328468116170.post-32999216010204614552012-11-10T18:26:00.001-08:002012-11-10T18:48:33.977-08:00Greenie package<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">So I sent my first package to Uruguay. I have no clue when it will actually get there, but we wanted to send some love to our greenie. I went to the store and looked for anything green, reasonably small, and not too perishable. This is what we came up with:</span><br />

Mine happened a few years ago! But it was my only sister's big milestone birthday and I wanted to make it extra special. She lives about 600 miles away-the closest we have been in decades. We are both military wives and would love to live next door to each other, but it just doesn't work that way! So I started brainstorming a little while ago. Should I throw her a party in a funeral home? Fly her somewhere? Hire a stripper? Ok, none of those was going to be feasible, so I did what I do best--shop! and create! (well, in my case, copy other people's fabulous ideas) and worry about every little detail on every little project! Because she is the one person in the world who will appreciate the time and love I put into every last millimeter of her gift! So I decided to send her a box full of 40 presents. </span><br />
